Day 10 - Wien (Vienna) WOW!

We had a very busy day so going to divide into two posts.

We started with a bus tour of the Ringstrasse, a grand boulevard that encircles the medieval city center & built where the original walls so the city were located. Palaces and huge mansions line the boulevard although most are used as offices or apartments today versus being the residence of one family when they were built. Also saw the Prater, a city park with a Ferris wheel as it's centerpiece.

After the bus ride, we went on a walking tour of the town center.  Saw the Hofburg Palace, the Spanish Riding School, the museum district & AST. Stephen's Cathedral (that dates to the Middle Ages) plus many coffee houses and conditeri (bakeries).

They said this is the  only "blue Danube" we will see.

We came back to the ship to have lunch and then headed out again to go to Schonbrunn Palace, the summer palace of the Hapsburg family. One thing there was the Royal Bed of Queen Maria Therese. She had 16 babies in 20 years & no twins.  She never slept in the bed but served as her throne! Was about the size of 2 double beds.
