Hiking off VooDoo Donuts!

Well we are headed home. Trip west to Astoria was 200 gallons of gas, 4905 miles and 66 hours of driving (hours doesn't include sightseeing hours). First stop today was Voodoo Donut in Portland. Line was considerable shorter than Sunday and they were worth the wait. We had a maple bacon, apple fritter and 2 Portland creams (chocolate glazed cream filled) & no, we did not eat them in one sitting.

Just to make you drool!

These are stain glass versions of what we had.

We then headed to the Historic Columbia Parkway to do some hiking to see waterfalls. Stopped at the Portland Women's Club overview and Vista  House.

Bridal Veil Falls

Unfortunately there was no parking space available at Multomah Falls so we had to miss seeing them.

Next stop was the Bonneville Dam and the salmon fish ladders. You had to drive across the dam to get the Visitors Center. My "dam engineer" grandfather Happy would have gotten a kick out of doing that, and the road was called the dam road!

We drove on this dam....but on the other side.

The drive to Redmond was interesting. Stopped to buy some apples & peaches at a
roadside fruit stand. Turns out  that these are the people that make the cookies for the Astoria Sunday market! Yum. Bought some & froze them to have for our trip home. The view from the market was beautiful and a great view of Mt. St. Helens...although at the time we thought was Mt. Hood! The drive was a transition from forests to high mountain desert and then irrigated farmland. We are spending the next two nights in Redmond, OR. The challenge for tomorrow is what to wear....is suppose to be 49 in the morning with a high of  87! (These pictures were taken while driving)
