We started off the day with a visit to Sisters,  OR. There is something going on this summer called Row by Row Experience. Quilt stores developed a quilt pattern for a "row" and some also designed "specialty" state license plates. You combine the various rows to make a quilt which will be a great memory of our trip. I figured the quilt store in Sisters would have a special one since there is a huge quilt show held there every year....and they did. Next went to a quilt store in Bend.....in honor of my "sister" (& Fred's cousin). It was called BJ's Quilt Basket and since BJ gave me her Bernina sewing machine, I had to stop.

Next stop was the High Desert Museum. It is a fantastic museum. One section you "walk" through diagram spas depicting the exploration and settlement of the west but primarily concerning the high desert area. There were a number of live animals, a section on Plateau Indians & their handiwork and an outdoor living history exhibit on a family ranch and sawmill.

On our way to get something to eat we saw these lava fields & decided to stop and take pictures. Turns out is was the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. We got to drive to the top of  Lava Butte. It was amazing to see all the lava and the views from the top were amazing.

We found a great place to eat called Sugar Tree before we drove the Cascades Lakes National Scenic Parkway.
